Salon social media checklist

Social media has a big impact in salon marketing, that can't be denied. I've met multiple, talented salon entrepreneurs who find updating their social media to be rather difficult. However, keeping up on social media doesn't have to be time consuming. With the help of this list, you can get a good head start!

#1 Check the basics

Make sure that your social media account has all the important basic information about your salon.

  • Salon website
  • Salon address
  • Phone number and/or link to booking

#2 Make it short

Every now and then, you probably come across posts with long paragraphs of text. It's important to remember, that social media posts aren't meant to be blog texts. According to studies, long text posts are often left unread. So, make it short. Imagine that you're writing more of a postcard, less of a letter.

#3 Check the photos

The photos you use on social media don't have to be professional, it all depends on your salon style. You should, however, make sure that your photo backgrounds don't have anything unnecessary that might steal the spotlight, such as cardboard boxes, trash, lunch box or piles of towels.

#4 Don't post everything

Even if your business is small, keep a personal account separate from your salon account. And though your salon might have a relaxed atmosphere, don't post photos of your lunch, vacation or your dog on the company account. Focus on what your customers are interested in.

#5 Appreciate your work

Remember, that you are a professional and your work is valuable. Don't feel pressured to post only sales. You can also highlight current services on social media, and there is no need to haggle over the price. Instead of sales, consider posting:

  • Instructions on how to make an appointment
  • A seasonal service
  • Gift idea
  • A new product
  • Your or your employee's favorite product
  • Photo of your team
  • Positive review
  • Before and after photo
  • Picture of your website and how to use it

#6 Connect the socials

Did you know you can connect your social media accounts, so that you don't have to make the same posts multiple times? If you connect your Instagram and Facebook, you can choose a setting that automatically shares the posts in both accounts.

#7 Re-post

You don't always have to think of something new. Scroll through your old posts and re-post them. If you can't reuse the same photo, reuse the idea and make a new post!
